Custom L-Shaped Ceramic Inspection Fixture — 2μm Geometric Tolerance, Batch Production
The Challenge
An electronics manufacturer needed precision reference fixtures for assembly line inspection — and they needed more than one. Standard gauge blocks didn’t fit their use case. They needed a custom L-shaped fixture, held to tight geometric tolerance, produced in batch, and made from a material that wouldn’t interfere with electronic components.
What We Designed & Built
  • L-shaped industrial ceramic fixture
  • Geometric tolerance: 2μm across two perpendicular datum faces
  • Batch production — consistent tolerance across every unit
  • Non-magnetic — safe for electronics environments
Our Solution
This is a precision fixture, not a standard gauge. We handled the full scope:
  • Design — L-shaped geometry providing two perpendicular precision datum surfaces for inspection and positioning
  • Material — industrial ceramic: zero magnetic interference, essential near electronic components and sensitive equipment
  • Tolerance — 2μm geometric tolerance maintained across the full L-shape, not just flat surfaces
  • Batch production — every fixture in the run held to the same tolerance, ensuring consistency across multiple inspection stations on the production line
Why Batch Matters
A single precision piece is one thing. Making 10, 20, 50 identical fixtures — each within 2μm — is another. That’s what this case demonstrates: we don’t just build one-off prototypes. We deliver repeatable precision at production volume.
Applications
  • Electronics assembly line inspection fixtures — batch deployment across multiple stations
  • PCB component positioning during incoming QC
  • Perpendicularity and angular reference for dimensional verification
  • Semiconductor and electronics manufacturing fixturing
  • Production line tooling — durable enough for daily, repeated use
Why Ceramic for a Fixture
  • Non-magnetic — won’t interfere with electronic components or test equipment
  • Holds 2μm geometric tolerance on L-shaped geometry — difficult to achieve in any material
  • Wear-resistant — survives high-frequency use on the production floor without losing accuracy
  • Lightweight — easy for operators to handle, reposition, and store
